Energy/Bush Policies

Energy:

Early in the administration of George Bush it was clear that he intended to take some action with respect to our energy needs.

From the outset, the White House treated this process like the Manhattan Project; everything went into Cheney’s office, but nothing came out. Members of Congress, environmental groups and the press attempted in vain to learn more about what was going on during the development of the energy plan. One of the most sought-after pieces of information was a list of the individuals that Mr. Cheney was consulting as part of his energy task force.

The proposal that emerged is a taxpayer-funded giveaway to large mature energy companies.

The overall cost of his proposal is just short of $50 Billion. Second, the vast majority of the money goes to large energy firms to offset their exploration costs that they would realize even without the federal funds.

On the Lou Dobbs show and each night he has a question that listeners respond to via the Internet.

These polls are not scientifically constructed like other polls, however the topics that are being covered are in the forefront of the issues that are important to our nation. It’s remarkable to me night after night those who chooseto vote on these polls show the overwhelming disapproval of the policies our government is following. What is most astounding is that the results are not even close - 80, 90 & 95% oppose the policies being followed by Washington.

Bush Policies:

KATRINA SHOWS THE BUSH PRIORITIES ARE ALL WRONG!

Studies and simulations were prepared in 2001 and 2002 for the Bush administration. They were almost 100% accurate as to the consequences of failing to rebuild this infrastructure in the largest port in the United States. George W. Bush ignored these studies and the warning contained in them.

The studies clearly indicated what it will take in terms of rebuilding the levees to withstand category four and five hurricanes as well as repairing the coast line along the Mississippi. The cost to rebuild the region would have been in the $20-$30 Billion range according to the studies. Bush, rather than starting to implement this essential rebuilding, actually cut the funding for the Corps of Engineers to that region beginning in late 2001. He diverted the money to the war in Iraq.

The truth is that our priorities are DEAD WRONG! With 10% of what George W. Bush has spent in Iraq, we could have completely rebuilt the levees in New Orleans and the Mississippi coastline and prevented this disaster from ocurring.
